Welcome to Kindergarten. Mrs. Cribb and I will work to help get your child off to a good start at EP Todd Elementary School. We will do our best to help your child gain confidence as we teach skills, encourage responsible school behavior, and share our enthusiasm for learning. Your child will bring home a folder each day. Please look in the folder each evening and return it back to school the next morning. There you will find home work assignments and notes that need to be read and signed as well as information about your child’s school behavior. This is our primary tool for communication, so if you have a concern or need information you can use it as well. Each week we will attend these special classes: Mon. and Wed. Music, Wed. French, Tues. Library, Thurs. Art, and Fri. PE. On PE day, your child must wear tennis shoes, or will not be allowed to participate. This year your child will be very busy as they learn new skills. For example, we will have art activities that go along with the books we are reading or the theme we are studying. We will write and illustrate books individually and as a group. We will listen to stories, dramatize, sing, and play learning games. Your child will bring home books made in class. Please help your child find a container such as a box, tote, basket, etc. to store their books.
Reading these books over and over will help your child with word recognition and become readers. Also we will learn about numbers, and how they work through many varied experiences, and we will begin using scientific processes as we investigate the world around us. Your child will get experience learning in a small group, large group, and independently.
