Class Description:
We have fun!!! 6th grade science at Carver is a comprehensive inquiry based curriculum with rigor. The Units for the first semester include Scientific Inquiry, Earth’s Atmosphere and Water Cycle, Climate Patterns, and Weather.

Location: Carver Middle School

205-2016 classroom

We are currently working on layers of the atmosphere, Water Cycle and Weather to come next. All my students know that they need to study at least 10 minutes everyday, revisiting, rewriting, revising and completing summaries in their interactive notebooks.

WildCat Science Club

This is one of the best clubs at CMS. We will have our first meeting in October of 2016. TBA (to be announced). Benefits of membership include a certificate, membership card, shirt, field trips and science lab activities to help increase inquiry skills. Additionally, students will work with Carver science faculty as well as invited speakers and scientists.

Students can get missed work uploaded via Edmodo by emailing me using Edmodo, MS365 or my district email address. On of the great things about our MacBook use is that all class materials are uploaded to Edmodo on a weekly basis so that students can keep up or work a head. For students that are absent for any reason, you have 10 days to make up work. I want all my students to succeed. Therefore, students have the opportunity to redo any work to improve their learning before that grading period ends.

Interactive notebook

As an AVID school, we use the interactive notebooks daily and require writing in the form of notes and summaries. The purpose of this is to help students learn and organize their notes in a logical and sequential way which helps them make connects within units.

WICOR is an AVID strategy that focuses on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading. These have proven to be effective in helping students learn, connect and retain the valuable information that is being shared as students experience the world of 6th grade science.

Engineering best practices

Aslo being a STEM school, I am dedicated to helping students become the best critical thinkers by incorporating the engineering model for students to develop problem-solving skills using inquiry.
